In the Irkutsk region, the law will combat “household” mining

The Governor of the Irkutsk Region has approved a new procedure for identifying cases of so-called "household" or hidden mining, which is defined in the official document as illegal mining of digital currencies. The order has already been signed and posted on the regional legal portal.

According to the document, the responsibility for detecting such facts is assigned to energy supply companies and power grid organizations. They must analyze electricity consumption indicators and identify suspicious objects that can be used for mining. The collected data on possible violators is sent quarterly to the Headquarters for Ensuring Electricity Supply Security, and then transferred to the Russian Ministry of Energy.

The document lists signs that may indicate the presence of a mining rig in a residential or other premises. These include consistently high power consumption regardless of the time of year, especially in the summer, when ordinary users consume less energy. Also taken into account are the absence of daily and seasonal fluctuations in consumption, as well as the amount of energy consumed, which exceeds the average indicators of similar objects by two or more times. Additional signals may include complaints from neighbors about noise, strong heat emission, modernization of wiring or installation of powerful cooling systems - all of these are characteristic features of equipment used for cryptocurrency mining.

Addresses where such signs are recorded will be entered into a special list, which after the 10th of each month is sent to energy companies and law enforcement agencies. If the fact of mining is confirmed, the owners may be subject to restrictive measures, up to and including complete disconnection from the power grid.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Sergei Tsivilev, reported that a complete ban on the extraction of digital assets would soon be introduced in Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, which would last for a whole year.
