Tether stops support for EURT cryptocurrency
Tether has announced it will no longer support EURT, its euro-pegged cryptocurrency, and is asking users to redeem their assets within a year, according to the company's press release.
Tether stated that customers holding EURT on all supported blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Tron, must redeem their tokens by November 27, 2025. New issuance requests for EURT are no longer being accepted, with the last issuance request dating back to 2022.
“This decision aligns with our broader strategic direction, considering the evolving regulatory framework governing stablecoins in the European market. Until a more risk-resilient system emerges that fosters innovation while providing the stability and protection our users deserve, we have chosen to prioritize other initiatives,” Tether said.
The move to cease EURT issuance aligns with the new European Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations.
