According to preliminary information, the criminals installed over 20 cryptocurrency machines in various regions of Russia and managed them remotely. It is believed that the scammers contacted victims by phone and persuaded them to deposit money via the terminals. The purchased cryptocurrencies were credited to the accounts of the scheme's organizers, while the cash from the machines was later collected by the gang leader, who also exchanged it for digital assets.

The police suggested that the criminal scheme was overseen by individuals from Ukraine and that a significant portion of the funds was sent to them. According to preliminary estimates, over 150 people fell victim to the scammers. One victim transferred more than 2.5 million rubles to them.

The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case for fraud. One of the suspects has been remanded in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
