Russian police detained fraudster demanding 16 million rubles in bitcoin

A Telegram channel administrator was detained in the Moscow region, suspected of extorting over 16 million rubles in bitcoin. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the department's information, the suspect, in collusion with a group of individuals, created a finance-related channel and then began threatening one of the companies with the publication of fake information about its connections with an underground casino. In exchange for silence, they demanded 0.5 BTC per month. The company agreed to pay the fraudsters in bitcoin.

The police detained only one of the suspects. During the search, they confiscated phones and equipment, as well as found a list of other companies that had been threatened. A criminal case for extortion was initiated against the detainee.
