According to law enforcement agencies, three Russian citizens lured Korean investors to a hotel in the Kanso area, offering them a supposedly lucrative deal with digital assets. Once the victims were in the hotel room, the criminals tied them up and began threatening them with a fake gun and a telescopic baton, demanding that they hand over the cryptocurrency. One of the victims managed to free himself from the ropes that bound him and called the police.

Arriving law enforcement officers found the injured man in the hotel lobby and immediately provided him with first aid. A dummy firearm, several bulletproof vests and a banknote counting device were found in the room itself. The investigation established that the crime was well planned and prepared in advance.

At the moment, two other defendants in the case remain at large and are wanted internationally through Interpol. The detainee is being interrogated, and in the near future the investigation will file a motion to place the suspect in custody.

Earlier it was reported that a New Zealand citizen living in Wellington was detained in New Zealand on suspicion of involvement in a major international criminal group.
