Russia named regions where cryptocurrency mining is prohibited

The Russian government has approved a list of regions in the country where cryptocurrency mining and participation in mining pools are prohibited from January 1, 2025, to March 15, 2031. This was reported by TASS.

According to media reports, the restrictions affect Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, and Chechnya. Additionally, in certain areas of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia, and Zabaykalsky Krai, mining is prohibited during peak energy consumption periods. In 2025, this period will last from January 1 to March 15, and in subsequent years, from November 15 to March 15.

Furthermore, the Commission for the Development of Electric Power has the authority to adjust the list of regions to maintain a balance in consumption in response to changes in industrial demands.

Earlier, it was reported that the parliament of Abkhazia adopted in the first reading legislative proposals for a complete ban on mining in the Republic and criminal liability for this type of activity.
