Putin: digital ruble payments to begin in 2025
Next year, the digital ruble will be used for transactions within Russia. This was announced by President Vladimir Putin during the VTB forum “Russia Calls!”, as reported by TASS.
“As agreed, starting next year, payments using the digital ruble should be implemented in the federal budget system, and by July 1, 2025, this capability should be available nationwide,” he said.
Regarding the prospects of international operations with this asset, Putin mentioned that the corresponding infrastructure is already being developed.
“In the framework of the pilot project, the replenishment of funds and transfers of digital rubles between individuals and legal entities have been tested. The project already covers over 9,000 citizens and 1,200 companies, and the number continues to grow,” the president added.
Earlier, it was reported that retail chains in Russia need at least two years to prepare for the launch of operations with the digital ruble. This statement was made by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in response to the draft law on starting transactions in the national currency.
