Miners in Texas required to register equipment

The Texas Public Utility Commission (PUCT) has mandated that miners connected to the state's Electric Reliability Council (ERCOT) network register all their mining installations. This information was reported on the PUCT website.

Miners must register their equipment within one business day of connecting to the ERCOT network, and they are required to renew the registration annually. Additionally, those mining cryptocurrency must disclose the location of their mining equipment, demonstrate ownership of the equipment, and indicate the amount of electricity consumed.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in daily fines of up to $25,000 for miners. According to PUCT Chairman Thomas Gleeson, this rule will enhance the management of the power grid as the number of miners continues to rise.

«For ERCOT to operate smoothly and provide electricity to all residents of Texas, PUCT and ERCOT must know the location of miners and their electricity needs. We are committed to supporting this rapidly changing industrial sector and ensuring local residents do not lose access to electricity,» said the PUCT Chairman.
