Miners in Russia may be transferred to the North and given a special tariff
Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Yevgeny Grabchak said in an interview with TASS that the state is considering the possibility of miners switching to a separate “network” tariff and placing them in the northern regions of the country, where unused power grid capacity previously intended for heavy industry has been preserved.

According to the official, in regions such as Yakutia, Murmansk Oblast and Arkhangelsk Oblast, there are unoccupied electrical capacities, the maintenance of which requires budget investments. He emphasized that there is currently a small amount of free network capacity, so the authorities are faced with the question of whether to withdraw this capacity from circulation, or to leave it idle and continue to operate it at the expense of the budget. Grabchak added that cryptocurrency miners can be sent there by creating a special network tariff for them. However, he added that this will not be a benefit, but a different principle of tariff formation.
Since the beginning of 2025, cryptocurrency mining has been prohibited in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, including Dagestan, Chechnya, and part of the Irkutsk region (during peak periods). Restrictions also apply in some areas of Buryatia and the Zabaikalsky Krai. Similar bans may be introduced in Karelia and the Penza region in the near future if the load on the power grid does not decrease.
