Launch of nuclear power plant in Belarus stimulated mining development - Ministry of Energy
The launch of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in Belarus has allowed for the development of incentive tariffs for electricity and has facilitated the growth of mining in the country. This was stated by Denis Moroz, the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic, as reported by «Rossiskaya Gazeta».
The official noted that companies engaged in cryptocurrency mining receive so-called discounts based on their energy consumption.
«The tariffs are differentiated: the more electricity a company consumes, the cheaper this electricity is for that company. We are observing a certain interest from various companies in these tariffs. Today, there are mining companies in the country that are involved in cryptocurrency production», - Moroz explained.
It is worth noting that the Belarusian NPP was put into commercial operation between 2021 and 2023.
In 2017, a decree was adopted in the republic that legalized mining activities.
