The Bank of Russia plans to pay social benefits with digital rubles
The Bank of Russia and the Federal Treasury have announced that in the second half of 2025, they will conduct an experiment on using digital rubles in the budget process, according to the financial institution's press service.

With this asset, officials intend to pay social benefits and cover capital construction expenses. The experiment is scheduled to last from August 25 to the end of September. Currently, the parties are working on possible scenarios and conditions for applying digital rubles in the budget process, as well as determining the list of social benefits that can be paid using the asset.
As part of the experiment, tests will be conducted on transferring funds from the state to individuals and vice versa—from individuals to the state. By August 8, the Treasury must open an account (wallet) on the digital ruble platform. The activation of the wallet and the linking of Treasury account keys to the digital ruble platform are planned for August 22.
