Gate.io Exchange Restricts Access to EU Traders
Crypto platform Gate.io has notified customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) that it has introduced restrictions on the use of a number of products in order to comply with updated EU regulations.

One of the users provided Bits.media with a copy of the official letter from the exchange, remaining anonymous. According to the document, Europeans will be restricted from trading crypto derivatives, perpetual contracts and futures. Spot transactions, including direct purchase and sale of assets, remain available. Traders from the EU with open positions in these instruments are prohibited from opening new orders. Everyone must close existing positions by June 30, 2025.
If the requirement is ignored, the exchange will automatically liquidate the remaining transactions. Gate.io management expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, emphasizing that the measures are related to the need to comply with local legislation.
“We actively cooperate with regulators to ensure the long-term stability and transparency of the platform,” the statement said.
Earlier, we wrote that from 2027, new anti-money laundering regulations will come into force in the EU countries, which will eliminate the possibility of using anonymous crypto wallets and private coins such as Monero and Zcash.
